Overview
We study bacterial metabolism, bacterial-host interactions, and responses of the innate immune system by different approaches using biochemical, structural, microbiological and genetic techniques. A focus is on bacteria which thrive in the gastrointestinal or respiratory tract of mammals. Bacterial or host protein complexes which confer central functions for survival, infection, defence or signalling are explored at atomic resolution to describe their mechanism, and to identify small molecules which manipulate their biological function.
